Tiny Mutiny 2024 at The Mall in Tuam Co. Galway

The inaugural ‘Tiny Mutiny’ event attracted a packed audience in Tuam on 1st February which celebrated teenage creativity in the arts. Young artists from all around the county showcased their talents live onstage and on the big screen at The Mall Theatre. Tiny Mutiny was commissioned by Galway County Council Arts Office in partnership with Sparkcatchers! and supported by Galway County Council and the Arts Council. ‘First Sparks’ was funded by the Creative Ireland Galway County Programme.

The young filmmakers, singer songwriters, graffiti artists, stop motion animators and  musicians took part in a panel discussion that elaborated on their successful Tiny Mutiny project award applications and their collaborations with professional artist mentors over a four month period with Sparkcatchers! Jojo Hynes and Midie Corcoran at the helm as creative producers.

In the spotlight was ‘Finding Home’ a stop motion short animation by Lauren Caine & Eske Walsh Olesen from Oughterard mentored by Jane Cassidy , a behind the wall documentary ‘Trapped Inside’ by Athenry native Ciarán Mahony who worked with Pascal Cassidy, a large scale graffiti artwork from local Tuam artists Thomas Roche and A.N. Saville guided by Marcus O’Connor and the first live performance of new E.P. single release from rock band TaLLLon who recorded with Kenny Ralph from famed Sunstreet Studios, Tuam. 

Presenting their work in progress were the ‘First Sparks’ young artists who each received a masterclass in their chosen disciplines. New original songs were performed by Alexandria Wilson from Abbeyknockmoy and duo Lev Rulerskyi & Afina Ostapenko from Oranmore. The Visual Art showcase included manga art by Alannah Canavan from Clifden, new graffiti by Breandán O Donnacha and illustrations from Niamh Ní Dhonnacha who both hail from Inis Oírr.
